Safety by choice, not by chance
Slip safety in Northamptonshire, by the numbers.
Slip risk is invisible until it’s measured. We put a number on it — an independent, UKAS-accredited Pendulum Test Value for every floor — so you can act on data, not guesswork.

The figures that make the case
Some are HSE facts; the cost and reduction figures are industry estimates. Either way, the direction is the same.

Of all non-fatal workplace accidents are the result of slips.
Estimated annual cost of slips and trips to UK employers.
Estimated cut in claim risk through regular accredited testing.

The two scales
What the readings mean
We use two complementary HSE-recognised tests, and we’re accredited for both. The pendulum measures grip directly; surface roughness (Rz) tracks how a floor changes over time and matters most in contaminated areas.
Pendulum Test Value (PTV)
Grip measured wet and dry. 36 or above is the HSE low-risk threshold.
Surface roughness (Rz)
Microscopic roughness in microns — vital in kitchens, factories and other contaminated areas.
What the numbers ask of you
From data to duty
Every employer and occupier has a legal duty to keep floors safe and to assess the risk; in care settings, the CQC expects slip risk to be actively managed. A measured PTV is what turns that assessment from an opinion into evidence an insurer, the HSE or the CQC will accept.
Independent, and accredited
This service is delivered by Surface Performance — entirely independent, with no connection to any flooring or treatment company and nothing to sell but the test. The same accredited lab trusted on sites from Amazon and Gatwick to British Airways and TUI.
